This company does not provide customer service, but customer “service” …

I’m in my 2nd year now on something that was supposed to take 6 months. They do not work as well as advertised – you will need to get several sets of aligners and spend years of your life trying to get your teeth straight!

It takes 2-3 months to get any set of aligners, regardless of whether it’s your first or fourth, tenth, etc. When, predictably, the first set doesn’t do the job and you are told that you will need another set of aligners, you will have to wait 2-3 months for the new set, just as you did for your first set. Ditto for your 3rd to nth set - existing customers do not get priority!

When, also predictably, Invisalign loses a set of your impressions, do not expect the company to fast-track you once they either find the lost impressions or your dentist sends them a new set. You will find yourself again at the back of the line, having to wait an additional 2-3 months before you are able to continue treatment.

So get over your vanity and get traditional braces, even if you are no longer a young teen – less money, less time, less aggravation. And life without the constant suspicion that you are being ripped off!

Location: Marlborough, Massachusetts

Don't waste your money on these cheap products made in Mexico!!!!!!!

This is a super late response... but don't blame Invisalign.

Blame your orthodontist or dentist who wasn't properly trained or equipped to treat you.

I myself have to get refinements and I am not upset about it. Yes, I'm going to have to wait three months, but in the mean time, while I'm wearing my last tray, it's acting as a retainer for me. Some teeth just don't move as expected, and that's okay.

That's why refinements are free. The waiting period DOES suck but it's not Invisalign's fault.

No that's not okay

I had a similar experience. The worst for me so far is that the dentist applied an attachment on both sides of the same front tooth because of an error he made at the beginning of my treatment and now I have to use such extreme pressure to remove the tray that I wouldn't be surprised if I lose my front tooth before this nightmare is over.

I count this as one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

Invisalign did not widen my smile. Three years and lots of plastic shards sticking in my throat.

Had to get my tonsils out. Now my one crooked tooth is turning gray. Never get them!

Go with regular braces!

I totally agree!!!

Not worth the money, time, aggravation for the results achieved. 4500 and 2.5 years into a 12 month treatment and my teeth are still not straight. Get regular braces.

My experience is the complete opposite of the negative reviews on here. First, I received my aligners within 3 weeks of the impressions being sent to Align Tech.

Second, I chose an Orthodontist, one of Invisalign's Top 1% Elite Providers, not a Dentist to oversee my treatment with Invisalign, as I had previous orthodontic work done and knew the importance of working with an Orthodontist as opposed to a Dentist. My Orthodontist was upfront about the limitations of Invisalign and the lifestyle changes required to wear clear aligners versus traditional braces. Some of the comments in response to the OP seem to be more about the lack of skill, training, experience and forthrightness of a general Dentist performing orthodontic work as opposed to an Orthodontist and are not necessarily due to defects in the Invisalign product itself. Third, the cost of Invisalign was cheaper than traditional braces for my case, $4350 for Invisalign versus $5000 for clear/ceramic braces, and the estimated treatment is 4-6 months shorter with Invisalign as opposed to traditional braces.

Fourth, this is my second go-around with braces, as I wore a mix of clear and metal braces when I was younger. My treatment time while wearing traditional braces was extended several times from the original 16-18 month estimate to the eventual 32 months I wore them. Additionally, when my metal braces were removed, my teeth were not perfect, as my top front tooth was still slightly behind the others. Further refinements were needed, even with traditional braces, that involved wearing Invisalign-like aligners.

No method is fool-proof or without it's drawbacks. However, now that orthodontists advise lifetime retention after braces, I feel confident this experience with Invisalign will be the last time I wear braces.

A biomechanical fact: teeth don't care how force is applied. They respond to force the same, whether it is applied by brackets and archwire or aligner.

Thus, there is not inherent savings of treatment time with aligners. But admittedly, when a patient breaks a bracket and does not get it recemented soon, a lot of time is lost in treatment.

Nickel-titanium archwire in brackets applies a gentler force to teeth.

Plastic aligners apply a stronger force to teeth, which is why teeth hurt so much with a new aligner.

Even it teeth are moved into the perfect nirvana of straightness, small amounts of growth occur throughout life. It remains nearly impossible by any means to correct teeth to perfect alignment, and keep them there the rest of a patient's life.

By the way, I am a general dentist who has done orthodontics for 27 years.

Your experience is so close to mine it's like I wrote your post myself. Add in that in my third set, my *** is completely f'd up and when I try to close my teeth without the aligners on, I have one upper front tooth that hits one lower front tooth...and the rest of my teeth don't touch.

I can't eat anything like carrots without fear of knocking out the bottom tooth. Sure hope when this is -finally- over I'll be able to *** properly again.

Yes, I agree, Invisalign has no customer service. :(

I have terrible results from Invisalign although I started with a healthy *** and had only three teeth that needed slight adjustment. Now NONE of my teeth fit in their fossae and I am experiencing horrible pain in my jaw and face.

Don't let a general dentist touch you with Invisalign! Beware that inter proximal reduction can ruin your occlusion!

Invisalign is not for the majority of cases and has its drawbacks. Plus the cost is a lot higher than brackets and archwires.

This technique has been oversold to patients, who of course are so believing in anything that is advertised so heavily.

Another thing I don't like about Invisalign is that it more often requires cutting the sides of the teeth "slenderizing" or "stripping" to make the thing work.

After 27 years of doing orthodontics, I rarely use aligner systems, unless it is a really simple case.

i too have have had a very poor experience with my invisalign treatment. at the end of which i was given ONE set of plastic retainers (which i am supposed to wear for several years).

well, the upper cracked in less than 2 months. i called invisalign twice and actually spoke to 2 different customer support people. neither of which were of any support or help and in fact did everything but try and help me the patient who paid my bill which eventually went to their salaries. the ortho/dentist who did the 18 months of treatment now wants an additional $700 for more retainers!

go traditional. at least you can see what you are getting and you have your provider providing all of your support, not some big company who does not care in the least for the customers using their product!
